What is Aesthetics?

Many people come to us with this question. The aesthetics industry is booming and with an abundance of conflicting information, it can be a challenge to navigate. We'll take you through the basics.

Aesthetic treatments are also known as cosmetic injectables. They include procedures which reduce the signs of ageing as well as rejuvenating skin. The most popular are anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers.

WHAT IS BOTOX?

The first and maybe the most important fact is that Botox is a brand name, not a treatment. The actual treatment is carried out with a neuromodulator product of which there are many different brands — Botox, Bocouture, Azzalure, Nuceiva and others. Botox has become a catch-all term for the treatment, regardless of which brand is used.

The product is injected with a fine needle into the muscles which cause fine lines and wrinkles in your face.

This allows those facial muscles to relax, so that fine lines and wrinkles will get less visible.

It can be injected in the frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet and may also help to reduce excessive sweating, headaches, gummy smile, lines at the corners of the mouth and bunny lines around the nose.

The results of each treatment should last from 3 to 6 months.

WHAT ARE FILLERS?

Dermal fillers are cosmetic gels commonly made of hyaluronic acid, a substance which binds to water to restore volume, essentially plumping the face and thereby helping fill out any lines and improving the appearance of sagging skin.

Most people naturally lose volume and elasticity in the face as they age. One of the reasons for this is the loss of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring component of the skin. Dermal fillers are medically developed gels containing hyaluronic acid that can be used to enhance facial features, restore volume and contour areas of the face.

Commonly treated areas include lips, cheeks, nose to mouth lines and marionette lines. We also offer advanced techniques to treat areas such as tear trough, frown, chin and jawline.

The result of each treatment should last from 6 to 24 months.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR TREATMENT

Treatment will always begin with a consultation to discuss what you'd like to achieve, a full medical history plus a facial analysis. We'll take some photos for your medical record and to allow us to assess your results.

Most treatments are injectable, therefore carried out with a needle or cannula. You will be offered numbing cream beforehand although discomfort is minimal. Treatments take from 10-45 minutes depending on the area treated. Following your treatment, we will ask that you don't touch the area, exercise, wear make-up or drink alcohol for 24 hours.

With fillers, you'll see results immediately, whereas anti-wrinkle treatment takes a short while, up to 2 weeks for the optimum results to be fully visible.

You'll be invited to a follow-up appointment at 2 weeks to review your results and make any adjustments needed.
